halloween season is around the corner so i decided to start a gothic horror fic! it's (mostly) jiglup. lupin and jigen get stuck at a costume party in a belle époque entertainment district for the filthy rich that slowly sinks into the sea… featuring decrepit palaces, hypnosis, demon summoning, creepy twins, stupid lupin!science, and like 40 outfit changes.

illustrated. rated explicit (18+) because lupin and jigen beat the shit out of both their meat and each other every other chapter. happy hallowiener

The workers grimly went about cleaning and polishing the engines. An uncomfortable silence hung in the air.

“What's going on?” Stuart asked.

“Nothing good.” Falcon murmured. “The lads usually aren't the most cheerful in these early mornings, but this… this is different.”

Duke, ever the optimist, was unnaturally silent, especially for such a beautiful morning.

“I want Duke on the first demonstration train.” The manager said. “Stuart, you'll be bringing the empty wagons down to Arlesburgh.”

“Falcon, you take the last passenger train down. As for you from the tramway, I want you shunting and sorting out trains. And I cannot stress this enough - be on your very best behavior today, all of you.”

“Yes, sir.” The engines chorused.

The manager nodded, and left.

“Granpuff…?” Stuart asked, in a weak voice. “What's happening?”

“Another good, honest day of work.” Duke said, in a tone unfamiliar to Falcon and Stuart. “Remember, youngins, whatever happens today, we all have done the best we could.”

“Granpuff…?”

Duke let off steam, and hissed out of the shed, wincing as his rods and joints creaked into motion.

Falcon looked over at two men in deep black and purple uniforms.

“No, we won't take that.” He heard one mutter. The other man nodded, and wrote something in his notepad.

Did they mean Duke? Were they not taking Duke's train?

“Agreed. Let's find something that doesn't sound quite so old.”

Stuart couldn't help but worry. He refused to let on to it, but he couldn't shake the feeling that the strange men weren't here to ride their trains.
